Exploration of the Arts

The Exploration part of the MPS Arts Citizenship Pathway connects arts with academic content while exposing students to the arts-rich community in which they live plus potential career options. Every MPS student is guaranteed an arts experience at every grade level in the form of a cultural field trip or a teaching residency. The content or model may vary at every school. For example, one grade level may attend an orchestra concert while another grade sees a live theater performance and yet another offers a teaching residency.

Community arts organizations collaborate with the district through this pathway, with the district seeking partner funding. The previous work and services of Arts for Academic Achievement (AAA) are integrated into this pathway, with the goal remaining the same: exposing students to and integrating our arts-rich community into Minneapolis Public Schools.

Programs in Schools
Several research-based programs have been identified as high-impact for our students. These programs are proven to increase student academic achievement and engagement using arts integration as an innovative learning intervention in Minneapolis and are available district-wide.
