Community arts organizations collaborate with the district through this pathway, with the district seeking partner funding. The previous work and services of Arts for Academic Achievement (AAA) are integrated into this pathway, with the goal remaining the same: exposing students to and integrating our arts-rich community into Minneapolis Public Schools.
Programs in Schools
Several research-based programs have been identified as high-impact for our students. These programs are proven to increase student academic achievement and engagement using arts integration as an innovative learning intervention in Minneapolis and are available district-wide.
MPS Arts in partnership with Target, MacPhail Center for Music, The Cowles Center for Dance and Performing Arts, Children’s Theatre Company, Minneapolis Institue of Art,Minnesota Orchestra,Walker Art Center, The Ordway, Guthrie Theater, Project Success, Northrop, and Highpoint Center for Printmaking, are providing guaranteed arts and culture experiences for every 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th grade student enrolled in a MPS school during the 2019-20 school year. We will also be continuing to run pilot programs for Kindergarten students with MacPhail Center for Music, as well as adding an additional pilot program with Highpoint Center for Printmaking for 11th grade students. Tickets and bussing costs are paid for as part of the program. These opportunities ensure that all students have shared arts and culture experiences across the district.
